About JAronowitz
Profile
Born in New Jersey, Joel Roi Aronowitz grew up in the fast lane of pop music’s mainstream culture. Joel’s father was the noted journalist Al Aronowitz who, as the New York Post’s “Pop Scene” columnist, was on intimate terms with some of the world's most influential music personalities. These personalities, many of whom were frequent visitors in Joel's childhood household, included such stars a Bobby Darin, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon, Carole King, Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan to name only a few. Another influential presence in Joel’s upbringing was legendary trumpeter Miles Davis, whose music was among Joel’s earliest childhood memories. Joel attended piano classes at Billy Taylor’s Jazzmobile in Harlem. He studied piano privately with Walter Bishop Jr., who will forever be heard on Charlie Parker’s groundbreaking recordings. Joel earned a bachelor of arts degree in music at the State University of New York College at New Paltz, where he pursued independent studies at Karl Berger’s world famous Creative Music Studio. The Creative Music Studio faculty at that time boasted such accomplished jazz musicians as Jack Dejohnette, Cecil Taylor and Lee Konitz, among others. Joel has been performing professionally as a musician since he was a teenager. He also has worked extensively in the motion picture industry, receiving screen credit as a sound technician in major feature films such as academy award winner, "A Beautiful Mind." More recently, Joel has returned to academia to earn a second bachelors degree, this time in sociology with a minor in psychology (graduating summa cum laude from Kean University). He is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University.
